Sapphire HD4890 1GB Atomic PCI-e
Video Card
Conclusion:
Rating the Sapphire HD4890 Atomic is a bit of a
tough call. There is no doubt that the Atomic Edition is a
great card, with top caliber performance and impressive overclocking
abilities. The real question is, is the card worthy of the
title, Atomic? Compared to what the HD4870X2 Atomic
brought to the table, with the integrated water block, enhanced
bundle, and sweet aluminum case, the HD4890 Atomic Edition does
appear to fall short, with its standard box, same-as-the-Toxic
Vapor-X cooler, and similar overclocking capability to the Toxic.
Of course, the similar overclocking capabilities
may be entirely coincidental, so I would advise potential buyers to
read around and see what the trends are across multiple samples and
make their own call. I think if Sapphire wants the crown for
overclocking with such a limited edition card, they might want to
follow in the footsteps of Asus and EVGA by releasing a software
voltage adjustment tool. This simple step could be what really
makes the difference between a good overclocker and card worthy of
the name "Atomic".
Even still, a 1000MHz base clock is an impressive
feat, and is obviously worth some price premium. It will
ultimately be up to the users to decide how much that fact is worth.
