Sapphire HD4890 1GB Atomic PCI-e Video Card

3DMark Vantage:

3DMark® Vantage is the new industry standard PC gaming performance benchmark from Futuremark, newly designed for Windows Vista and DirectX10. It includes two new graphics tests, two new CPU tests, several new feature tests, and support for the latest hardware. 3DMark® Vantage is based on a completely new rendering engine, developed specifically to take full advantage of DirectX10, the new graphics API from Microsoft.  3DMark Vantage can also test your video card in several different ways.

For the purposes of our bench, we will be testing with the Performance, High, and Extreme Presets.  Here are our results:

Vantage Performance:

  CPU Graphics Total
4890 Toxic Stock 24932 10930 P12715
4890 Toxic OC 24653 12049 P13815
4890 Atomic Stock 24781 11333 P13112
4890 Atomic OC 24675 12130 P13896

In this review, I have decided to directly compare the Atomic directly to the Toxic at both "stock" and overclocked speeds.  In Vantage Performance, the 4890 Atomic at stock takes on the Toxic with a 3.1% lead, and unsurprisingly, the overclocked Atomic only leads by 0.5%.

Vantage High:

  CPU Graphics Total
4890 Toxic Stock 24850 6914 H7753
4890 Toxic OC 25000 7501 H8381
4890 Atomic Stock 24894 7175 H8033
4890 Atomic OC 24745 7713 H8601

On the High Preset, the Atomic Stock outperforms the Toxic by 3.6%, and overclocked, the Atomic outperforms the Toxic by 2.62%.  .

Vantage Extreme:

  CPU Graphics Total
4890 Toxic Stock 24609 4967 X5173
4890 Toxic OC 25006 5388 X5609
4890 Atomic Stock 24550 5192 X5406
4890 Atomic OC 24887 5557 X5781

On the Extreme Preset, the Atomic stock beats out the Toxic by 4.5%, while at the overclocked settings, the Atomic winsby 3.1%.

3DMark06:

Futuremark's 3dMark06 has long been the go-to benchmarking tool when it comes to synthetic benchmarking.  Love it or hate it, there is no question that 3DMark06 has been the measuring stick of video card performance industry wide for several years.

I will be using Version 1.1.0 professional.  The free downloadable version can be found here.

CPU SM 2.0 SM 3.0 Total
4890 Toxic Stock 7092 7466 8977 20074
4890 Toxic OC 7141 7870 9527 21057
4890 Atomic Stock 7198 7536 9201 20423
4890 Atomic OC 7154 7733 9349 20749

In 3DMark06, the stock Atomic beats out the Toxic by 1.7%, while the overclocked Atomic actually loses to the Toxic by 1.5%.
