Sapphire HD 4850 Toxic Up Close

So while all those cables and the software is nice, the Sapphire 4850 Toxic edition is the reason we opened the box in the first place.  Right away we can see that the reference cooler has been stripped off of the PCB and replaced with a hefty heatpipe cooler from Zalman. Since the reference cooler is gone, some additional heatsinks have been placed on the video cards RAM.

But the addition of that cooler will come at the expense of expansion slots. On this particular motherboard, the cooler is blocking two PCI-Express x1 slots.

The 4850 Toxic isn't a complete rework of the reference board at all. All of the electrical components have been left in-place and to ATI specification as evidenced by the PCI-Express power connector facing (the wrong direction in my opinion) towards the rear of the card.

Since the card only has DVI outputs hardwired, you'll have to use one of the supplied adapters if your monitor uses something different, such as the DVI to HDMI adapter shown here.  The interface port in the middle is for the analog component video cable.
