Washer Series:

DIY-ON09 Mainboard Glass Washer

  • Fixing between the Motherboard and Screw to prevent short circuit
  • Thickness: 0.5 mm x 10pc

These special washers are manufactured from a glass material and are used to prevent static shock or a short circuit between your expensive motherboard and the mounts.  Increasingly I am seeing high-end manufacturers including these but if you don't have a set I recommend picking some up.  Having a fresh set for every install is just a good practice.

With the power supply installed and the motherboard properly grounded, its time to fasten things down in their new home.  To install the washers all you need to do is place the motherboard onto the mounting risers and line things up.  Then place a glass washer over the hole before screwing things down.

This picture shows the washer installed.   The extra layer of protection for your mother board can mean the difference in protecting your motherboard from an outside static discharge or a short circuit caused by an improperly grounded component.  Many newer motherboard mountings can require more than 8 of these to cover every mount, so don't forget to get an extra set.  As I mentioned above it is also a good idea to inspect these washers during a reinstall to make sure they have not become damaged and replace them when needed.  Its just amazing to me how much we spend on a high-end performance PC, but we neglect to do the simple things to protect our investment from a damaging electrical discharge.
