Kingwin Mach 1 600 Watt Modular Power Supply Review

These days there seems to be two different schools of thought when it comes to building a high performance PC; power or looks.  With the Mach 1 600 Watt modular power supply, Kingwin wants to show you that performance doesn't mean you have to sacrifice that modded look.  Building on the success of their Absolute Power series, the Mach 1 may be the boldest new power supply on the market today.  Lets take a closer look.

The Mach 1 (ABT-600MA1W) makes a dramatic first impression.  Kingwin lets the product do the talking and the blue lighted accents leave no doubt what you can expect to find inside.

All of the specifications and features can  be found on the box as well.  I always feel like the product has something to hide when I have to hunt for the specifications.  And heck, we are always suckers for a handle that works.

Inside the box, Kingwin has organized the contents into layers.  Here you can see the five modular cables packed safely in their own container.

Next we find the Mach 1 manual.  Kingwin provides all the specks you could ever want inside.  With the individual keying of the cables and the labels provided on the power supply it's self, we found very little need for more than a glance.

Our first look at the Mach 1.  As always, Kingwin provides a top notch power cable and mounting hardware for those in need.  The power supply had some play in the box but the packaging kept our unit safe and looking factory fresh.

Once out of the bubble wrap the Mach 1 looks fantastic.  The 20/24 pin power lead and the 4/8 pin power leads are the only attached cables.  The versatility of providing support for so many different power needs is very refreshing.  As you can see the bottom surface is dominated by the 120 mm clear blue LED fan.

This is the first power supply I have found that supports both the 4 pin and 8 pin motherboards with out an adapter.

The back also showcases an 80 mm clear blue LED fan.  Kingwin has chosen to control the fans automatically as opposed to some of the three speed solutions we have seen lately.

Each of the sides is windowed as well.  Here you can also get a better look at the nickel-plated finish Kingwin has chosen to accent all this blue lighting.  As always the photography doesn't do these shiny metallic surfaces justice.

Taking a closer look at the cables shows we are provided with one PCI-E SLI run, one SATA run, two of the traditional 12 V runs and a extra 12 V run.  The total supported connectors are:  2 x GFX 6 pins, 9 x 12 V drives, 2 x floppy drives and 2 x SATA drives.

Lets take a closer look at the plugs on the Mach 1.  There are six plugs but only 5 cables included, weird.  In fact the Mach 1 supports two SATA cables but only ships with one.  The aircraft style cable screws  make the modular design more stylish and dependable that the usual clip design.  As each plug is specifically keyed, the missing cable can only be for SATA, this seems to be a pretty big oversight considering most motherboards are supporting 4 or more SATA devices natively.
