It seems like everyone is talking about power some days.  With the recent release of ATI's 2900 series taking up to 215 Watts at load your trusty OEM power supply just isn't going to cut it much longer!  Fortunately major manufacturers like Ultra Products are already stepping up with an increasingly wide variety of massive capacity power supplies to take us into the next generation.  Today we look at Ultra's top modular unit the 1000 Watt X3 Energy Efficient Modular Power Supply.   Ultra brings an impressive mix of features and raw power to the table with this flagship X3.  Lets take a closer look right here!

The ultra packaging is both eye-catching and simplistic.  Still the large X3 graphic and the sheer size of the box will probably draw your interest on the shelf.

Opening the top reveals all of the features and specifications you would need to make an informed purchase.   Ultra is still one of the few manufacturers unafraid to show the actual power specifications right on the box.

Opening the box, we are greeted with a separate box containing all of the modular cabling.  This smaller box is cut for carrying and makes a nice smaller way to keep track of any unneeded cables.  Believe me, you are going to need it!

Under the component box we get our first glance at the X3 safely packaged to survive our overzealous postman.

With the packaging out of the way, the X3 1000 Watt looks a lot like any other Ultra modular unit.  Looks can be deceiving as the unit is slightly larger than a standard unit and features a proportionally larger 135mm fan.

Ultra has provided massive compatibility by providing more cable options than I have ever seen with a modular power supply.  All told there are 20 separate cables (including the power cable) included for your installation needs.  Each of these cables is longer than standard and features Ultras Flex-Force design for ease of cable management.  To make more sense out of the spaghetti, Ultra has provided this reference chart.
