Setting up the ESR-9710 Wireless-N Gigabit Router

Setting up the ESR-9710 Wireless-N Router is fairly simple, but not quite as simple as installing and setting up a wireless adapter. The good thing is EnGenius included a quick start guide that is very easy to follow and understand. The more detailed instructions are in a PDF file on disk, which was also included with the router.

Wizard & Manual Setup Screen

There are two methods of setting up the ESR-9710. The first and easiest method is to follow the "Internet Connection Setup Wizard" which is built into the router. You simply log into the router by typing in the IP address of 192.168.1.2, select "Admin" with no password, click on "Log In", then click on "Internet Connection Setup Wizard". Simply follow the step by step directions and the router is up and running in just a few short minutes. Now keep in mind that using the wizard only sets the most basic settings and leaves the more complex settings at default. If you are an average user who just wants to get up and running on a 802.11n wireless network, stick to the wizard and you'll be fine. As for the enthusiast, you'll want to first run the wizard, then log back into the router and change the advanced settings. The user's manual on PDF format will help you along if you have any questions.

Advanced/StreamEngine Screen

What I was really impressed with was how easy the router is to setup. The setup screens are extremely easy to read and understand, even under the advanced tab. Although easy to follow, there are plenty of advanced settings to keep even the most hard core computer enthusiast busy. I was especially impressed with the wireless setup wizard. I can really make setting up the security modes a snap.
