Vantec AVOX Jukebox AVX-100TX Review

The Install:

Installation is simple and requires only a screwdriver to complete.  I have completely disassembled the TX for you here.  Note:  The AVX-100TX does not come with a hard drive.  For this install I will be using a Toshiba 12 gig I salvaged from an old laptop.

The unit is opened by a tab on the left side of the back.  Note the plugs shown here are different than the unit shown on the Vantec site.  The plugs are form left to right; the USB connector, the 5 Volt DC power adaptor, the dual purpose plug for 5.1 digital audio output or an external remote control IR receiver, the component output, and finally the composite video output.  The external IR receiver is not included.

The unit featured on their site does not have the same plug assignments, as seen here. Version 1.0?

Using the four supplied screws, the 2.5" drive is attached to the board and then slid back into the enclosure.  The top cover slides into place and the back panel is clicked into place.

Here we see the completed unit.  The TX is made from high density plastic and feels quite sturdy.  With a 2.5" hard drive installed and no ventilation, the unit will get warm after prolonged operation.  I can easily see the next generation moving to an aluminum enclosure.
