Vantec AVOX Jukebox AVX-100TX
Review
Over the last couple of years there has been an explosion in the
external storage solutions market. Both USB flash and External drive
solutions have increased in size and decreased in cost dramatically. It
takes a little extra innovation to stand out from the glut. Enter the
Vantec with their new AVOX Jukebox. The AVOX Jukebox takes the best of
portable drive technology and marries it with a full featured, stand
alone multimedia player. Lets take a closer look.

Vantec has been doing this for a while and it shows in
the presentation. The AVOX is clearly shown at nearly actual size. The
remote is clearly visible and the major features are clearly defined.
Plus, I would love to have a dedicated home theater room like that at
home!

The inside packaging is solid and simple.
This picture is with the manual and drivers disk removed. The
drivers disk contains USB drivers for legacy operating systems and the
users manual in soft copy.

Each of the required cables are individually
packaged. Included are the USB cable, an AV Cable (Composite + Stereo
L-R), Component Video Cable, and a Coaxial Audio Cable. The power
adapter is from the white box.

One of the nice things about Vantec's choice of
packaging is shown here. Each component is individually labeled in easy
to identify black text. The picture washes out the Coax Cable text a
bit here. You only have to open the cables you need, the rest stay
safely enclosed.

Here is a closer look at the AVX-100TX unit next to
the included remote. The TX is not much larger than a 2.5" hard drive
and the remote is a very thin light weight unit. More on the remote in
a minute.

The front of the TX consists of a power LED, a drive
activity LED and a remote input/IR LED. The large input to the right is
the IR receiving area for the remote. The receiver for the remote
is set back and requires a pretty straight shot to get a clear signal,
perhaps this is why an IR plug is now available on the back.
