Multi processor computers are nothing new, and neither is the Iwill MPX2. Quite a while back, AMD introduced the AMD 760 MPX chipset to support dual AMD Athlon MP processors. We waited anxiously for the new Athlon MP technology, but once it got here, it didn't receive the warm welcome we had expected. To this day, there are only a handful of companies that still support the 760 MPX chipset, but lucky for us, Iwill is one of them. The Iwill MPX2 is readily available, and from what we hear, it is one of the better motherboards featuring the AMD 760 MPX chipset on the market today.

Iwill has produced some of the best motherboards of our time, but today I'm not here to prove whether or not this is true. Yes, we are going to test and review the Iwill MPX2, but more importantly, we are going to show you how to make a great dual Athlon server machine without using the AMD Athlon MP. I'm sure you are asking yourself "How in the world do we plan to pull that off???". It's easy, we will be using the Athlon "XP" instead. Confused? Sure, everyone know that only AMD processor that can run in SMP configuration is the Athlon MP, but this isn't entirely true. If you are into overclocking, you know that any Athlon XP can be multiplier unlocked by opening or closing the tiny bridges on the back of the CPU. Well, the same thing can be accomplished to turn any ordinary Athlon "XP" into an "MP".

So why would anyone want to turn an XP into an MP? The answer is simple - PRICE. Have you looked at the price of an Athlon MP lately? Now figure in the cost of two of those bad boys. The Athlon MP is in fact a better chip for servers and the only AMD CPU to truly support SMP, but if the XP can be turned into an MP just as easy as it can be multiplier unlocked, why not take advantage of the ultra low cost of the Athlon XP? Sound complicated? Not at all. In fact, the process of turning an XP into an MP is much easier than unlocking the multipliers on the XP! Excited? I am! I love doing this sort of thing. It's in my blood as an Overclocker. I've been wanting to take advantage of the raw power of a dual MP system for a very long time and now is my chance. But can it be done and will it be stable? I want to find out for myself first hand, but let's take a look at the MPX2 that Iwill sent over for this project. I'm not sure who is more eager to see our results, ClubOC or Iwill...
