Motherboard up close

Everything you would find on today's best P4 boards is here; SATA RAID,
IDE RAID, Dual Channel DDR and so on. The only big difference is the new
Socket 775 and PCI Express. Let's take a look at this new socket.

The
Socket 775 is more like a clamshell than a traditional socket. The CPU
has no pins, the pins are now contained in the socket itself.

Here is our new P4 2.8GHz CPU. The pins are no more. Instead of pins
there are small metal contacts. No more bending pins!

You
simply line up the CPU with the keyway in the Socket 775, pull the metal
clamshell over the CPU, and lock the lever into place. Real simple.
You'll also notice that there is no heatsink mounts like traditional
motherboards. Check this out...

Behold, the almighty Orb!!! Intel has made the Orb fashionable again by
including it as their OEM heatsink for their Socket 775 processors. The
heatsink itself has the mounting brackets built into it. They simply pop
into the 4 holes on the motherboard. Quick and simple. I'm impressed!
