ABIT
has a long history of providing high end motherboards with the
enthusiast in mind. Packed with the latest ABIT technologies and
Crossfire support, their new AW8D motherboard hopes to continue this
legacy in the socket 775 arena. We have the AW8D in the ClubOC
labs ready for testing so join us as we take a look at one of ABIT's
latest and greatest!

The Abit packaging showcases the
drifting theme based on the import tuner culture popular in much of the
world. Though the AW8D can more properly be called an AW8-D, there
are currently no plans to release any other variations due to the
recently announced AW9 series. I should also note that some
software identifies the AW8D as a AW8D-MAX.
The road to
ultimate performance is fraught with twists and turns. Handling the
hairpin turns of overclocking takes total control – complete interaction
between man and machine. One wrong maneuver could mean the difference
between crossing the finish line and careening off the track. Does your
PC have what it takes to drift into performance nirvana? -ABIT

The back of the box presents an
extraordinary amount of information covering the many features and
technology included. The AW8D is also compatible with the optional
Support GuruClock.

The inside of the box separates the
contents into three different areas. I must admit this extra
effort scores points with me as it keeps everything organized and
provides a nice place to keep unused parts.

The first box contains six locking
SATA cables a dongle for 2x USB ports and single Firewire port, an 80
pin IDE cable and a Floppy cable. The addition of locking SATA
cables is a nice plus but the HDD and FDD cables are sadly not rounded.
With the AW8D currently the flagship on the 775 front, the lack of round
cabling is a shock.

The second box contains the Quick
Install Guide, a Users Manual, a detailed Users Manual, software and
drivers, a back plate, a motherboard reference sticker, a dual card
support and a SLI bridge. That's right, it comes with the hardware
to support SLI. I had to check the specs again to confirm the AW8D
is a Crossfire motherboard!
