     Conclusion

It's not to uncommon for DDR2 to go above and beyond its rated specification. We've seen a lot of kits reach into the 900 Mhz speeds. Here, we have a dual-channel kit that has not only benched at DDR2-1000, it did it while set at the enhanced CAS latency timings. Aside from the baseline run at default settings, the memory speed for all the overclocking tests were kept in a 1:1 ratio with the CPU. Once the CPU front side bus hit 466, it became necessary to adjust its multiplier from the default 8, down one notch to a 7. This freed up a little more headroom and ensured that it was the CPU holding us back, and not the memory or motherboard. Of course everything needed some voltage adjustments along the way, and the memory needed its step-up at around the 477 Mhz range. Once the vDIMM voltage was brought up to 2.45 volts, we could continue the front side bus assent until we hit 500Mhz. Unfortunately, this was also the end of our stability trip as well. 2.45 volts is the maximum memory Voltage setting on the Asus P5B Deluxe and the 1:1 cpu:memory bus ratio provides the lowest memory bus speed possible.

So, what we have here is -- a 2 Gigabyte set of Dual Channel DDR2-800 with a HUGE amount of overclocking potential. It's costs is very comparable to most normal dual channel sets of DDR2-800, yet it has the lowest CAS latency of any other sub $499 memory kit available. If you're looking to overclock on a budget, this set will definitely help you get there.
