Overclocking

Although this memory isn't considered to be overclocking memory, I'm curious to see where it maxes out at with the settings of 2-2-2-5.

While the i915 motherboard does not overclock at all with any memory, the Pro875B motherboard loves overclocking. This particular motherboard has reached as high as 290MHz FSB. There is no doubt about it, if the PQI memory can be overclocked, it will be done with the Pro875B.

With a little voltage tweaking, I was able to reach 210MHz FSB with the memory still set at 2-2-2-5. This is pretty good with such tight memory timings.

Next I'll loosen up the memory timings and see what she can do with the Pro875B motherboard and 2.8GHz CPU. Tom my total amazement, I was able to take the bus speed up to 240MHz, which comes out to be a CPU clock speed of 3.38GHz. This is about as high as this CPU will overclock on this particular motherboard. Although the memory timings are at 3-4-4-8, the performance is still very high.

Now let's run Doom3 and see what happens...

Even with the CPU overclocked to 3.38GHz, the system bus at 280MHz, and a gig of what appears to be some of the best RAM money can buy, Doom3 is still kicking our butt. The frames per second increase is only slight and not really worth the overclock. The only thing lift to do is overclock the video card, which is really pointless to do since we are reviewing the memory, not the video card.

Conclusion

I have to say that I'm VERY impressed with what PQI has done here. For only $270, you can have a gig of what appears to be some of the best RAM on the market today. The performance even ranks right up there with Crucial's new Ballistix for about the same price! PQI has done a great job here and there is no doubt that if I had to buy new performance RAM, PQI would be at the top of my list. Club Overclocker Recommended!
