Crucial System Scanner

Crucial, "The Memory Experts", showed us exactly how a Triple Channel DDR3 kit should perform with their 6GB ECC DDR3 Triple Channel Memory Kit we reviewed a while back. Although the Intel Core i7 does not support ECC memory, their ECC memory kit totally dominated the competition on our test system. Even to this day, the Crucial ECC kit holds some of the fastest SiSoft Sandra benchmark scores we've seen.

What is Crucial, a division of Micron, doing differently than other memory manufacturers? Why does Crucial's slower latency timed memory out performing the competition's faster timed memory? Could it be that it's because Micron Technology has been making memory right here in the good old USA for over 10 years? Could it be that in our time of need, American workers are putting forth their best efforts to offer a product that people can trust and believe in? Or could it simply be that Crucial has produced a superior product all along and we're just now noticing? Maybe it's all of the above?

Today we have a new non ECC triple channel memory kit from Crucial. Can their latest 6GB DDR3 triple channel kit keep up with the incredible performance of the ECC kit we tested just a short time ago? I don't know about you, but I'm eager to find out if the numbers we saw were just a fluke, or if this latest Crucial line of memory is the real deal. Let's jump right in and find out!

Triple Channel Memory Defined

The Intel® Core i7 family of processors ushers in triple channel DDR3 memory technology support. This new technology will take memory data transfer rates to the next level. With dual channel memory support, there are 2 memory channels. With Triple Channel, there are simply 3 memory channels. With Triple Channel technology, data bandwidth actually doubles to rates of up to 25.6 GB/s when operated in triple channel interleaved mode. Furthermore, the memory controller for the i7 is located on-die, which helps increase memory performance as well.
