Performance

For our performance testing we wanted to keep it as fair as possible. The real point that we wanted to get across was whether or not the Corsair XL had a performance advantage over one of its competitors using the same settings in our Asus P4C800-E motherboard. For comparison purposes we used a matched stick pair of 512mb OCZ PC-4200EL. Some argue that the 4200EL is a bit dated compared to OCZ's EB series, but our point was to see if the Corsair had an advantage at default and overclocked speeds. Our test configuration consisted of the following components...

  • Asus P4C800-E

  • Intel Pentium 4 Prescott 3.0E

  • Visiontek x800 Pro

  • Thermal Take 480W Butterfly PSU

  • Danger Den CPU, GPU, & Northbridge water cooling

SiSoft's Sandra 2004 SP1

OCZ EL4200

Corsair 3200XL

Corsair 3200XL 2-2-2-5 2.75v

Clearly Sandra depicts not too much of a difference at 200FSB, although given that the EL4200 is very high speed ram, the Corsair is optimized for a 200fsb.

Gaming Benchmarks

Using our favorite little program Bench'emAll, we ran a whole slew of games using the program and game graphical defaults. AA and AF was turned off so as to concentrate more on system utilization more so than video card usage.

As you can see Corsair is clearly in the lead with one exception being UT 2004, but only by a fraction of a frame.

Corsair at 2-2-2-5 2.75v

Corsair seems to have a very big improvement running at 2-2-2-5 timings in our gaming benchmarks!
