 SteelPad QcK Heavy Mouse Pad Review

     Today we will be looking at the latest mouse pad from our friends over at SteelSeries; the SteelPad QcK Heavy.  It seems our readers are always on the cutting edge of performance parts but nestled next to these performance PCs  we find the most sorry mousing surfaces you have ever seen. Your game is only as strong as it's weakest link right?  SteelSeries has the solution right here!

     SteelSeries calls the QcK heavy a "monster among desktop cloth pads."  and they have summed up my first impressions nicely.  The packaging is a combination of a plastic blister pack and a box that must be almost three inches square at the end.  This pad is definitely not your average fabric sheet.

Quick facts about SteelPad QcK heavy:
* XXL-sized cloth mouse pad
* Heavy thickness eliminates uneven surfaces
* Ideal for low sensitivity mouse settings
* Compatible with all mice
* Specially designed non-slip rubber base
* 450 x 400mm (17,7 x 15,7in) - thickness 6mm (0,23in)

     The QcK heavy pad is black and features the embossed white SteelSeries logo in the lower right corner and has nicely rounded edges.  The pad is actually a nice flat black but It  washes out in photos a bit.  Like many soft pads, the QcK uses a cloth surface attached to a foam backing.

     Unlike most pads, the QcK heavy consists of a heavy thick layer of dense foam.  The result is a 6mm ( .23 inch) surface that has a consistency not unlike a camping pad.  The height takes some getting used to, but the extra thickness has two functions to it.  The large pad is designed to eliminate problems caused by uneven surfaces, making it ideal for the type of tables found at may LANs or garage events.  In addition the large surface provides a nice padded feeling for your wrist during long periods of use.

     The back surface is coated with a tacky non-skid coating that holds the pad in place on most common surfaces.  I tested it on both a laminate and polished wood surface and could not move it with even forced mouse movements.

     The QcK heavy pad isn't just thick, it's also quite large measuring in at about 17.7 x 15.7 inches.  Coupled with the extra thickness, this may be the biggest overall pad we have ever seen!  To get a good idea of the actual size I have compared it to the Everglide Giganta and two of my mice.  This extremely large surface is perfect for gamers and graphics professionals that use low sensitivity settings to achieve pinpoint accuracy.

     All SteelSeries products are developed in cooperation with professional gamers.  The QcK heavy pad is endorsed by several prominent gaming clans.  In addition to mouz|cooller shown here, the packaging also features nods from Team3D, Team NOA, compLexity and mousesports.

Conclusion:

     With the wide variety of pads offered by SteelSeries, there is a mouse pad to suit every style and size.  Selecting the right mouse is a question of taste, it is hard to go wrong when you select a pad from a recognized leader like SteelSeries.  After using the QcK heavy for a week of work and gaming, I am confident the comfort and quality are outstanding.  The added padding can be an asset in some environmental as well.  With a suggested retail price of $29.95, the QcK feels like a lot of pad for your money too.  If you are an oversize mouse pad user or suffer from wrist fatigue, you can't go wrong with a XXL QcK heavy mouse pad in your arsenal.
