SATA 3.0 often referred to as SATA II
or SATA/300 represents the latest generation of the SATA family.
Offering speeds up to 300 MBps and moving at more than twice the speed
of traditional ATA devices, the SATA standard is well on course to
making the traditional PATA interface obsolete. The advantages of
the SATA 3.0 interface include more than just speed but also the ability
to prioritize requests to optimize response times through NCQ. The
SATA 3.0 standard is widely expected to become the dominant interface
and to remain so for the foreseeable future.
