Seagate Momentus™ 7200.1 2.5" Hard Drive

Seagate is closing the performance gap between the standard 3.5" hard drives in desktop computers and the 2.5" hard drives found in notebook computers and other hand held gadgets! They have cranked up the speed of their Momentus line of hard drives and have added Serial ATA interface for the fastest data transfer speeds possible. The resulting product is a hard drive that will forever change the way you look at notebook computers... We have their 100gb SATA version in hand and ready to test. Let's take a look!

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Momentus™ 7200.1 is a 2.5-inch, 7200-RPM drive that is ideal for high-performance, workstation-class notebook PCs. Momentus 7200.1 is also a great fit in specific non-PC applications, including non-mission-critical blade servers and small form factor PCs.

ADDITIONAL FEATURES

• QuietStep™ ramp load technology enables whisper-quiet load/unload acoustics.
• Enhanced G-Force protection enables mobility in rugged notebook operating environments.
• Advanced manufacturing and the latest technology for the most reliable storage solutions ever
• The industry’s most comprehensive compatibility and benchmark testing
• Assured, steady supply from the industry’s only independent supplier of notebook drives

One of of the best things Seagate has done with their new Momentus drives is adding SATA interface. Yes, this is the same SATA interface found in desktop computers. This means this tiny hard drive can be used in ANY computer that has Serial ATA (SATA). As the storage capabilities of the Momentus drives grow it wont be long before you start seeing them replace the standard 3.5" hard drives all together. It really is just a matter of time before the 3.5" hard drive goes the way of the dinosaur just like the old 5.25" hard drives that were measured in megabytes, not gigabytes.
