Eagle Tech Computers is back with an addition to their expansive line-up of external hard drive enclosures. Back in September of 2007 we took a look (here) at three of their enclosures including the D-Series, a full-size dual SATA drive enclosure that uses RAID JB0D technology to maximize storage space and drive compatibility. The latest from Eagle Tech falls within that category and is called the I-Series.

     External USB to SATA enclosures are a great way to recycle hard drives you've pulled as you upgrade your computer system. Using the RAID JBOD file system, it won't matter if the drives you install aren't the same size, type, or model. The unit only uses Serial ATA drives but beyond that there are no other requirements. Even the cache size can be completely different. So while JBOD offers no type of speed enhancement or internal data redundancy, you gain 100% drive compatibility and storage space.

     A power adapter and USB cord are standard issue with external enclosures. Typically, the included CD has USB drivers, but this one also has a PC software suite. We'll go into detail with that later on.
