I know what you are thinking, not another external hard drive enclosure review... Before you close this page and surf on down the internet you need to read on a little bit because this one is different, I promise. The reason this external hard disk drive is different is because it's universal. No, not just universal in the way it plugs into your computer, this baby is compatible with both IDE and Serial ATA hard drives, and it can plug into both USB 2.0 and Serial ATA ports! Do I have your attention now? If so, read on and let's take a closer look!

Up close and personal:

The LUXON is well packaged and comes with everything you need to install a hard drive and setup the external device, right down to an external Serial ATA port and bracket, cleaning rag, cables, and a handy tool. It's all there.

The enclosure itself is not extraordinary or life altering, but it is a good looking enclosure that is compact, yet functional.

The enclosure is vented to help keep the hard drive cool although there is no cooling fan. Cooling fans are not really necessary with external drives if they are not heavily used. Most external enclosures don't have cooling fans anyway so we won't dock points from VIZO on this.

The rear of the LUXON has a USB and a Serial ATA port. One thing I want to point out is this Serial ATA port IS NOT an "E-SATA" or External Serial ATA port. This is a standard SATA port, just like the one you would find on your motherboard.

As I mentioned in the opening, this device is compatible with both IDE and SATA hard drives, while at the same time has the ability to plug into a USB or the included SATA port. The LUXON is able to do all of this because it has it's own internal controller card. This is the first external hard drive enclosure I've reviewed that has this ability.

A close up view of the internal controller card.
