DynapowerUSA Black Widow Case Review

With so many cases on the market today, smart shoppers are looking for a way to stretch their dollar without having to give up quality and style. Dynapower USA brings us the Black Widow Case combining custom looks with a solid features list.  We put their latest under the knife here at the Club.

Right from the box art, Dynapower has captured our attention with the stark black and white color scheme and the intriguing spider patterns.  Our local shipper has provided the corner dings at no extra charge.  Despite some rough handling the Black widow arrived safely packed and unharmed.

The case brings to mind the current Spiderman movies with its shiny chrome finish on the raised webbing.

The spider mounts on the top.  Not only does it look cool, it functions as a visual temperature monitor.

The first surprise is found in Dynapower's decision to replace the more traditional window with a black mesh.

The mesh is solidly attached and porous enough to allow air to pass through nearly unrestricted.  The end result is similar to a tinted window.

Following the Black Widow theme, the included power supply is colored in a bright red.  Notice also the offset 120mm fan in its blue cage.  Both the fan and the power supply are lit by multicolored LEDs.

The front door opens to reveal both the exterior bays and the power buttons.  You may have noticed there are no power or drive lights.  I rarely notice my drive light during normal use, but troubleshooting without it could be frustrating.

The bottom hinges open to reveal the front accessory ports.  The ports are mounted on the door providing easier access, a nice touch.  Where is the fire wire?

Inside the Black Widow, we find a lot of room for your build.  The edges are nicely rounded and the case has very little flex, due to its steel construction.

The 120mm Fan is housed in a Blue offset mount and features a thermal monitor that is directly tied to the spider lighting.  The black box you see is the controller unit.

The front of the case leaves room for another 120mm fan and all of the bays can use standard screw mounting or the included fast mounts.  Sadly the Black Widow only ships with two of these mounts, one 3.5 and one 5.25.
