These days everyone has a pretty case.  Some are Spartan works of minimalism, some are all about the bells and whistles.  The X’Bat Case is CoolMax’s first foray into the custom case market.  With a style that screams Batman, does the X’Bat have what it takes to be a super hero?  Let’s see what hides behind the mask!

The X’Bat is available in three different colors: Blue, Silver and Red.  Our blue review sample shows how bright the blue can be.  In person the paint job has a modest chameleon effect causing the case to look navy or purple depending on the light.  Fresh out of the box, I was surprised to see the color was listed as blue and not some more exotic blend.

The 5.25” bays are handled by a set of tool-less white clips.  These clips hold the drive firmly on both sides requiring both panels to come off for installation.  The white clips in the back hold the cards in place snugly, more on them when we get to the install.  You can see the X’Bat offers no other case fans.  The option to mount two 80 mm fans in the back and one up front allow some flexibility in adding cooling fans as needed.
