Computers are doing so many different jobs these days that the "one size fits all" mentality just doens't cut it anymore. Someone looking for a clean and quiet enclosure to fit in with the rest of their home entertainment gear wouldn't be looking for a a full tower enclosure with a half-a-dozen 120mm cooling fans.  Gamers will probably be looking for enclosures that are easy to carry. The folks who are always doing something to their PC will probably appreciate a case that is a little bigger with features that make working on the PC, less of a chore.

For the longest time, if you wanted to have room to work with then you pretty much had to go with a full tower enclosure. However, many of those full-towers only provided extra room in the form of more 5.25" drive bays. Since most of the real work on a PC is done on and around the motherboard, that doesn't help us a whole lot.

The m988 from Ultra may be a mid-tower enclosure but it's not just another cookie-cutter mid-tower chassis. Ultra has made the m998 slightly larger than a typical mid-tower and packed in a few extras along the way. How much larger?

Measurement: Generic Band
"Standard ATX"
Ultra m988
"Extended ATX"
Height: 451mm / 17.75 inches 460mm / 18.11 inches
Width: 200mm / 7.87 inches 240mm / 9.45 inches
Depth: 430mm / 16.93 inches 520mm / 20.47 inches

Just by adding a little extra width can vastly improve things inside the case. This is especially true once you consider that the average height of a high performance heat-pipe CPU heatsink is about 150mm.

Ok so its bigger, but what else does the Ultra provide....

>> Constructed and framed with 1.5mm high grade aluminum to increase thermal dissipation

>> Compatible with ATX, EATX and Micro ATX motherboards with 7 standard expansion slots

>>  4x External 5.25" bays -2 * 2x External 3.5" Bays * 5x Internal 3.5" Bays

>> Includes two 120mm fans mounted in standard inlet (front) /exhaust (rear) configuration.

>> Top and side panels are removable as well as the stainless steel motherboard tray.

>> Front mounted expansion: 1x eSATA, 2x USB, 2x Audio (microphone and headphone)
** This can be replaced with almost any standard PCI type expansion bracket

>> Ultra's Power Bar power distribution system
