Scripts

Here is where the REAL
power behind WinTasks is located. The scripting system. The
scripts allow for WinTasks to monitor how the system is doing and change
process priority bases on set limits. As in the example above, if
there are any processes that have the word Media in their name and the
total CPU usage is greater than 50 percent then decrease the process
that has media in its name down one level.
An example of a script
that I created is for a program I use to view MPG movies that I either
create or download. This program if it doesn't have a high
priority
in the system tends to skip and stutter. So I created a script
that looks to see if that process is running and if it is, then it bumps
it up one level. Now I never have to go and open the Task Manager
to up it's priority. A huge time saver in my book.
Summary & Final Thoughts
Overall the program works
and runs exactly as specified. There are only a few minor issues
that I see that could be fixed. 1st the submission of process
descriptions. On some of the processes I submitted all the
required fields were blank and some were not. However there was NO
documentation about the submittal process and so I had to look at other
processes to see what information the put in those fields. It took
about an hour to figure out what went where. And the other problem
that really isn't a problem but would enhance the program is the
scripting. I could see some extra variables being added to further
enhance the scripting. Sometimes the script does more than it
should, and sometimes it repeats itself over and over for no apparent
reason. Other than those I really
enjoy having the software running it's been a real time saver and a lot
of fun to play with.
