With the
increased power of the modern performance video card comes the need
for more power and the creation of more heat. While we cant do
much to bring down the power needs of these monsters, companies like AeroCool are working hard to bring down the heat. Today we
will be looking at the AeroCool DoublePower VGA cooler. With
not one, but two heatsinks, is this cooler worth an upgrade?

AMD Accelerates
Application Development with Inaugural Release of Open Source
Performance Library
SUNNYVALE, Calif. --
February 20, 2008 --AMD (NYSE: AMD) today

the Framewave open source project represents another milestone
contribution to the open source community. We believe that Framewave
will quickly become a significant resource for developers, helping
them to build faster, highly optimized and multi-threaded
applications more efficiently,” said Earl Stahl, vice president of
Software Development, AMD. “Developer collaboration is one of the

The
2.5" OCZ Solid State Hard Drive (SSD)
Thanks to our friends at OCZ Technology, we were able to get our hands on one of
their first solid state hard drives. Although this one is only 64 gigabytes in
size and retails for more than a grand, it was a great opportunity to see what
the future of hard drives has in store for us hardware enthusiasts. Here's a
clip from the review:
"Once upon a
time, there was a PC vendor that wanted to bring a notebook to the market that
featured a hard disk RAID array based upon Solid State Drives (SSD). One thing led to another and the end result was a downward spiral of vapor-ware
and unfilled orders. While the HD market continues to
recover from that quagmire, the idea of marketing SSD drives is still alive and
well. Just about every memory based hardware manufacturer at the 2008 Las Vegas
Consumer Electronics Show had an SSD drive on display."

eBay boycott to start
Monday
~Scott
Users opposed to eBay's upcoming fee and policy changes are ready for
a weeklong boycott starting Monday. The boycott is planned to run
February 19th thru the 25th and will overlap eBay's rollout of their
significant policy changes. Not only will the new policies cost
sellers more money, but the changes also include the removal of
buyer feedback. This will obviously leave sellers more vulnerable to
scammers and fake bidding. Personally, I've been scammed numerous
times by fake bidders and by those who never pay. This not only cost
me money and time, but I loose faith in eBay's system a little more
each time. With the new rules about to cost us more money as well as
making it easier for sellers to get scammed, I believe we may be
seeing the beginning of the end for eBay. Stay tuned for details
throughout the week...
For the longest time, if you wanted
to have room to work with then you pretty much had to go with a full
tower enclosure. However, many of those full-towers only provided
extra room in the form of more 5.25" drive bays. Since most of the
real work on a PC is done on and around the motherboard,
that doesn't help us a whole lot. The m988 from Ultra may be a
mid-tower enclosure but it's not just another cookie-cutter
mid-tower chassis. Ultra has made the m998 slightly larger than a
typical mid-tower and packed in a few extras along the way. How
much larger? Find out

Happy Valentine's Day!
US plans to shoot down spy satellite
It's becoming blatantly obvious the Bush
administration does not want any chance of this big hunk of space
junk falling into the wrong hands. Oh yes, there is that part about
some danger to humans in the form of a toxic cloud... Today
President Bush asked the Pentagon to come up with a plan to shoot
down the malfunctioning satellite. Very little information has been
passed down to the public about the satellite, other than the object
is "classified" leading many people to believe the object is a spy
satellite. Our government wont even tell us exactly where or
when the object will come crashing down to earth, instead only
saying it will come down "some time early next month". You can read

Microsoft Corp. today announced the results of a new survey that
found teenagers between seventh and 10th grades are less likely to
illegally download content from the Internet when they know the laws
for downloading and sharing content online.
About half of those teens, however, said they
were not familiar with these laws, and only 11 percent of them
clearly understood the current rules for downloading images,
literature, music, movies and software. Teens who were familiar with
downloading rules credited their parents, TV or stories in magazines
and newspapers, and Web sites — more so than their schools — as
resources for information about illegal downloading.
“Widespread access to the Internet has amplified
the issue of intellectual property rights among children and teens,”
said Sherri Erickson, global manager, Genuine Software Initiative
for Microsoft. “This survey provides more insight into the disparity
between IP awareness and young people today and highlights the
opportunity for schools to help prepare their students to be good
online citizens.”

Kingwin
Revolution RVT-12025 Heatsink Review
It was not long ago when I held the original
Kingwin Revolution (RVT-9225) in my hands and said "This would
be great as a 120mm heatsink". It appears the gods of
overclocking have heard my plea, as my wish has been granted with
the RVT-12025. So, is this new heatsink truly a blessing, or
are they a curse?

Microsoft Responds to
Yahoo! Announcement
REDMOND, Wash. — Feb. 11, 2008 — Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT) today
issued the following statement in response to the announcement by
Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) that its Board of Directors has rejected
Microsoft’s previously announced proposal to acquire Yahoo!:
It is
unfortunate that Yahoo! has not embraced our full and fair
proposal to combine our companies. Based on conversations
with stakeholders of both companies, we are confident that
moving forward promptly to consummate a transaction is in
the best interests of all parties.
We are offering shareholders superior value and the
opportunity to participate in the upside of the combined
company. The combination also offers an increasingly
exciting set of solutions for consumers, publishers and
advertisers while becoming better positioned to compete in
the online services market.
A Microsoft-Yahoo! combination will create a more effective
company that would provide greater value and service to our
customers. Furthermore, the combination will create a more
competitive marketplace by establishing a compelling number
two competitor for Internet search and online advertising.
The Yahoo! response does not change our belief in the
strategic and financial merits of our proposal. As we have
said previously, Microsoft reserves the right to pursue all
necessary steps to ensure that Yahoo!’s shareholders are
provided with the opportunity to realize the value inherent
in our proposal.

Microsoft helps bring
down $900 million piracy ring
Today there are details immerging about a huge world wide bust of a
piracy ring that had been pushing near perfect knockoffs of 21
different Microsoft programs. All I can say is good for Microsoft.
Although I'm no Vista fan boy, I also don't believe it's right for
honest people to pay full price for legitimate software while
pirates pay pennies on the dollar, or nothing at all.

Intel,
STMicroelectronics Deliver Industry's First Phase Change Memory
Prototypes
SANTA CLARA, Calif and GENEVA,
Feb. 6, 2008 – Intel Corporation and STMicroelectronics reached a

“DDR2 is starting to adopt 1066 MHz as the new
mainstream frequency, not only for extreme overclocking but also for
high system memory densities,” commented Dr. Michael Schuette, VP of
Technology Development at OCZ Technology. “In order to
maximize the system performance, especially in the latest games, 4GB
of memory are more and more becoming a must have…but it is also
necessary to maintain the throughput regardless of the increase in
density. The new PC2-8500 Reaper HPC 4GB kits combine the best of
two worlds by delivering extreme bandwidth at 1066 MHz data
frequency at 5-5-5 latencies, in combination with advanced heatpipe-based
thermal management to again raise the bar for high system memory
densities.”
The latest PC titles that make use of DirectX 10
crave more than the standard 2GB of RAM for the ultimate gameplay
experience and the highest settings. Computer enthusiasts and
professionals utilizing high-bandwidth video, music, and graphics
applications will also benefit from the ultimate balance of speed
and density the new PC2-8500 4GB Reaper HPC offers.
